Motus Sonus @ De Pont

By Alesya Dobysh

Based on a shared curiosity about new contexts and about other ways of thinking about art, DansBrabant collaborates with museum De Pont in Tilburg on an irregular but regular basis.

On 28 September 2023, DansBrabant presents MOTUS SONUS, an interdisciplinary experimental project focusing on movement and sound.

In this collaboration, five international artists (Simon Bus, Alesya Dobysh, Max Frimout, Koo Des and Seung Woo) work on the musicality of movement and the physicality of sound. In the process, they delve into the interaction between dance and music.

The performance consists of a series of choreographed sketches and improvisations, navigating the interdependence of sound, movement and space. In the halls of De Pont, they respond to the works of Thomas Schütte, who is currently exhibiting at the museum.

Simon Bus
Simon Bus (born 1989) is a performing artist and choreographer based in The Hague. He fell in love with breakdance in 2001 and graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts & Design in 2013. With his curious eye and hyper-flexible body, Simon stretches ideas about breakdance. He has a fascination with the discomfort of everyday life, turning various dance forms inside out astutely, cheekily and humorously.

Alesya Dobysh
Alesya Dobysh (born 1998) is a dancer, choreographer and teacher originally from Russia and now based in the Netherlands. She started her career in the street and club dance scene, where she developed her love for house dance. In her practice, she experiments with subcultures and unconventional forms of performing, visual and sound art.

Max Frimout
Max Frimout (1999, Nuenen) creates live electronic music with modular synthesisers and computer programmes. His performances focus on the relationship between movement and sound from the perspective of the body. Max recently graduated from the Institute of Sonology at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.

NSDOS
NSDOS, also known as Kirikoo Des (born 1984), is a multidisciplinary artist, techno musician and choreographer born in Paris. After studying at the Académie International de la Danse, he is particularly interested in finding natural movement patterns that he then incorporates within a context of physical movement and sound.

Seungwoo Park
Seungwoo Park (born 1997) was born in South Korea. He is a performance artist, dancer, painter, sculptor and filmmaker who explores the complex interplay between the real and the unreal through unconscious movements. In his performances, he stretches physical boundaries and tries to transcend the limitations of gravity.
