whatchamacallit

By Charlotte Goesaert

whatchamacallit is a performance-exhibition show inspired by the 19th century freak show. In a museum setting, four actors deploy their bodies as art objects, viewing objects, power objects and pleasure objects. At minimal distance, they share their stories, their rolls of fat, their flabby skin or protruding bones.

At whatchamacallit body and technology engage in a game together. Via TV screens and sound boxes connected to the performers, their 'insides' are also shown: thoughts, desires and their gene. Audiences walk around and choose where they fix their gaze. Old, skinny, jaded and spastic, the actors move between them. whatchamacallit is uncomfortable and reassuring at the same time.
