Self-portrait, Man on Orange Floor
By Simon Bus
Dancer Simon Bus is fascinated by portraits. Part of his ongoing work consists of movement portraits of which Self-portrait, Man on Orange Floor (2019)and Portrait, Balder on Blue Floor (2023) are part of it. The starting point for Simon's work is a fascination with the discomfort of everyday existence. The game between having control and yet losing it again is a recurring theme. Simon works with dancers similar to his movement language, often also drawn from hip-hop.
Self-portrait, Man on Orange Floor is a solo in which Simon Bus himself stands on stage and dances a self-portrait. Using a 2×2-metre floor as a canvas, he portrays himself in poses and movements that oscillate between his ideal self-image and a caricature.
