Motus Sonus
Motus Sonus is a collaboration between dancer and choreographer Alesya Dobysh and electronic composer Max Frimout. During a three-year PLAN trajectory, they will work together on this interdisciplinary project in which movement, sound and architecture interact continuously.
Motus Sonus began on a 2×2 wooden platform with transmitting microphones connected directly to Max's modular synthesisers. Alesya's movements formed the input for Max's live composition. His sound in turn influenced Alesya's choreography.
The research is steadily expanding. The platform is no longer the only form of interaction, also the space and the ever-changing acoustics of the room where Motus Sonus takes place now; different dancers, makers and sound artists are invited to shape an edition.
As a choreographer and initiator, Alesya combines the roles of dancer, choreographer and curator. Motus Sonus is an ongoing investigation into other collaborations and new ways of choreographing. The interaction between contemporary art and urban culture are important sources of inspiration. In 2023, editions have already appeared in venues including De Fabriek in Eindhoven, The Grey Space in the Middle in The Hague and at art gallery The Windmill in Seoul (South Korea)and in De Pont museum in Tilburg.
Every edition of Motus Sonus is different. Collaboration with diverse venues and local dance communities is often an important starting point. In 2026, the research will conclude with a Motus Sonus Festival in Tilburg.
