My August feels like December

Pieter Desmet – My August feels like December

Pieter Desmet began his dance training at the Kunsthumaniora in Brussels and graduated from the Koninklijk Conservatorium of Antwerp in 2018. Since 2019 he has been dancing with different companies and working as a freelance dancer.

Since 2017, Pieter has been exploring his own multidisciplinary work, with the overarching theme of identity development.

Currently, Pieter is working on My August feels like December. With this work, he and the artistic team create a new and contemporary grief ritual in the form of a multidisciplinary and participatory dance performance. Grief and sorrow are feelings that everyone sooner or later has to deal with in their own way, often accompanied by the idea of being alone.

My August feels like December starts from the dancing body and will become an experience somewhere between performance and ritual.

During the residency in April, the team conducts an initial physical research based on the question of what physical reactions grieving entails.

They start from memories stored within the body and within individual memories, yhey will zoom in on the relationship within the group and explore how others can offer support in the grieving processes and how individual physical reactions to grief can be very different. They look at how to translate their research into digital video art and explore the relationship between that medium and the dancing/moving, as well as the feeling body.

On Wednesday, May 3, he will share some of his process. We are very happy to invite you to attend.
