Piet Van Dycke

Piet Van Dycke (Tienen, 1996) graduated as a choreographer from the Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Tilburg in 2018 and subsequently worked as a dance and circus creator, performer, coach and teacher at various arts organisations such as fABULEUS, Cie Woest, dOFt, TeaTime company, Les Payenkes Utopistes and LAP. From 2021 to 2023, Piet was PLAN-maker under the aegis of Festival Circolo, DansBrabant acting as artistic advisor and co-producer. At the end of 2021, Pete founded his own non-profit organisation Circumstances.

A characteristic of Piet's work is the fusion of dance and circus. Piet explores the limits of gravity, balance, equilibrium and endurance. It provides him with unique ingredients for a very personal movement language at the interface of spectacle and vulnerability.

Pete: "I think the interesting thing about circus is the risk: what if it fails? After all, it only gets interesting when the juggling ball falls. In that realisation, I think lies the basis, the idea that we are all 'just people' who falter, fall and get up again." And: "I strive for the accessible, for the recognisable. My work is based on 'all of us' and doesn't quickly revolve around one body. It will always be about 'moving together'."

During his PLAN period, Pete deepened his interdisciplinary signature as a choreographer, creating, among other things On Point (BNG Prize 2021), Exit and Glorious Bodies. As of 2024, Pete remains associated with DansBrabant. With some regularity, he will return to our studios for choreographic research.
