Guilherme Miotto
From the moment Miotto made his entry into Dutch dance, he introduced a signature of his own. First as a dancer in the work of Krisztina de Châtel, Bruno Listopad, Emio Greco and T.r.a.s.h, among others, and then as a creator of idiosyncratic radical performances.
A teacher at the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg and the Toneelacademie Maastricht, he developed his own Instinctive Performance method that cultivates the performer's personal characteristics and impulses. Miotto works from the premise that our experience of the world is not only nestled in our brains, but also, and especially, in our bodies. From our deepest subconscious, this physical storage of experiences determines our way of moving. In his work, he asks his performers to open their bodies and activate the present, personal layers of instinctive, physical knowledge.
In 2013, Unpunished premiered. With the surprising Gefallen for two b-boys, he made a big impression during Spring Awakening (2014) as well as with the solo Rise Up for b-boy Menno van Gorp (2015). For these last two productions, DansBrabant joined as co-producer and collaborative partner. From 2014 to 2018, Guilherme Miotto worked with DansBrabant, Korzo, Podium Bloos and others to realise a firmer position in the (dance) landscape.
In late 2017, Guilherme founded the Corpo Máquina foundation together with social worker Amine Mbarki. With Corpo Máquina, the pair gives new substance to what 'making dance' is, with a steady deepening and commitment to what dance can mean for people. To their special artistic projects, they link social projects through which they make a difference in people's lives.
