Arno Schuitemaker
Arno Schuitemaker (Amsterdam, 1976) completely changed course after studying Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering and began studying contemporary dance at the Fontys Academy in Tilburg. His work arises from existential questions and is an ongoing search for the mystery of our bodies and ourselves.
Arno Schuitemaker employs a dance language in which direct relationships are established with the audience and partner work stands out. In his performances, he prioritises sensory experience over narrative; he finds logic in a network of layered and interrelated relationships.
In 2009, Schuitemaker received the Dioraphte Incentive Award, where the jury spoke of "the - literal and figurative - inevitability of this maker's works" and "his well-considered, clear choices and his sense of dynamics and tension building".
