TAKE-OVER DansBrabant
by Simon & Alesya
Fine news: dance makers Simon Bus and Alesya Dobysh are taking over DansBrabant. Or at least for one day in November.
Besides being partners in life, Simon and Alesya are also partners in art, in which they constantly inspire each other. Coming from a hip-hop dance background, they have developed their own movement language for their performances. Their work features elements from street and club dance styles, including house dance, jazz fusion and breaking, with influences from visual art and performance.
During TAKE-OVER, they will present fragments of pieces they are currently working on in every nook and cranny of Club SoDa, DansBrabant's premises in Tilburg.
Dancers from Trio No. 1, Melissa Antonelli and Noel Volsman, together with Alesya Dobysh, transform the car park into a stage. Max Frimout, composer of electronic music, and Erik van de Wijdeven, lighting designer and stage designer (both of whom have long collaborated with Alesya and Simon) will present pieces created for the choreographers' works. Max will also perform live. The film Road, which Simon made with Korean dancer Seung Woo Park, premieres this evening.
In addition, Alesya and Simon show a first glimpse of their work-in-progress AWOL. This new work, premiering in 2025, is the duo's first full-length co-creation with dancers Balder Hansen, Lukas Karvelis and Eivinas Dziena.
