KOMMA with Ghaliah Conroy
@ Park
Ghaliah Conroy (born 1996) is an Irish/French Guyanese dancer and performer. Having studied Dance and Choreography for four years, Ghaliah has a multidisciplinary approach when it comes to performing, creating and working in the arts. This is partly because she has a background in various disciplines. Before her studies, she spent several years working as a singer, actor, dancer and creator. As a result, she has equal appreciation, respect and curiosity for the different disciplines and is interested in connecting them.
Ghaliah has a unique perspective, comes from mixed cultures and backgrounds and is interested in issues of race and gender. In her work, she is fascinated by the topic of identity. Growing up as a minority and having to deal with ignorance and barriers in the art world have greatly influenced her reasons for creating. She hopes her work has an impact on people, whether it is because they see something new or leave having learnt something new.
Ghaliah reacts to the exhibition In The Garden Of Doubt And Panic by Sylvie Zijlmans & Hewald Jongenelis. The performance is Sunday 28 May at 3.30pm.
