KOMMA with Eleni Ploumi
@ Park
In collaboration with Dans Brabant, we invited choreographer Eleni Ploumi to comment on the exhibition Question Mark.
Eleni Ploumi is a dancer and choreographer. She graduated from the Bachelor of Choreography programme at the FONTYS school of arts (2016). As a performer, she has worked with various companies such as Katja Heitmann, United-C and T.R.A.S.H. She has been part of Dans Brabant's PLAN talent development programme since 2020.
Eleni always performs in her own shows because she is fascinated by the strong relationship between her and the audience during a performance. She tends strongly towards performance art and her work is characterised by high and intense physical activity combined with theatrical elements.
"The idea of being alone in an exhibition space, a space meant for people to walk around, is peculiar; let alone spending an entire week there. Space needs movement to be experienced, words hung like clothes, waiting to be worn. I missed life immensely and that feeling had to be part of my commentary on this exhibition. For this creation, I felt the need to remove life from my presence and bring it back in a different form. The artworks acted as a compass for the physical movement, which then allowed me to embrace the human emotions and state of being that emerged from these pure movements.
Lora is an inanimate body that grabs movement from its surroundings and returns it to a vivid form."
